Her fascination with traditional textiles made her start her own company Nextiles in 2004. Nextiles’ main focus is to translate the traditional handwork into styles that suit the urban needs.
following her heart
Acquiring a diploma in brand building communication after graduation, she started her career at McCan Erickson Kolkata in art direction and print production. She soon gave up her job to pursue what she always wanted – recreating traditional Indian weaves and working closely with indigenous artisans.
Suchismita is a visionary when it comes to working with traditional Indian weave. Her experiments with form, texture, design and techniques, makes her who she is today. She translates the traditional handwork into styles that suit the urban needs. She designs mainly for people who needs to be stylish yet comfortable.
Awards and Achievements
Suchismita’s contribution in her chosen field is reflected in the awards she received in a very small space of time in her career.
Swayam Siddha award from Rotary. Contribution in textiles and the life of the artisans.
Madrid International Film Festival. Best costume designer. Koyekti Meyer Golpo.
Participated in the Ethical Fashion Show in Paris, France where the prime focus was on recycling of Natural fibres and textiles.
She participated in the Artist in Residence programme arranged by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs of French Embassy in India.
